Your first manicure appointment is easier when you already know what “good” looks like for you: the length you can actually wear, the shape you like, and how natural (or bold) you want the finish to be.

1) Think about length first. If you’re new to gel, start with a short, comfortable length. Very long nails often change everyday movements and can lead to chips or lifting while you adapt.

2) Choose the service that matches the problem. If your nails are strong, a regular manicure + gel polish is usually enough. If they bend, peel, or break easily, strengthening may help. Extensions are best when you want a noticeable length change or need to rebuild shape on several nails.

3) Bring references (and anti-references). 2–3 “want” photos and 1–2 “not like this” photos are perfect. Tell your tech what matters most: shape, color opacity, matte vs glossy, minimal vs detailed.

4) Mention your real daily load. Do you wash dishes often, type all day, work with gloves, gym, childcare? These details help adjust length, structure, and product choice so your manicure survives real life.

5) Ask about hygiene without embarrassment. It’s normal to ask how tools are sterilized and whether files are single-use. A professional answer is calm and specific.
