Lifting is one of the most common reasons clients feel disappointed after a gel manicure. It’s important to know: it’s not always “a bad technician” and it’s not always “bad products.” Most often, it’s a combination of factors.
Below is a short list of the most frequent causes—and what you can do to make wear more predictable.
1) Nail plate prep. If there’s leftover moisture/cream, the pterygium isn’t properly removed, or shine isn’t taken off where needed, the product can’t “grip” well. Over-filing and overheating matter too—sensitive nails behave differently.
2) Daily load and length. If the length is longer than what you’re used to, your hands need time to adapt. Using nails to pry open lids, press buttons, or handle clasps is a classic cause of chipping and free-edge lifting.
3) Product mismatch. One base can’t perform equally well on hard, soft, thin, or “wet” nail plates. Sometimes the fix is switching the base/strengthening approach—not repeating the same combo again.
4) The first 24 hours. Right after the appointment, try to avoid very hot water/saunas and aggressive chemicals. For cleaning and dishwashing, wear gloves. It’s simple, but it truly affects wear.
If lifting keeps repeating, the best approach is to tell your technician about your routine and show where it happens. The location often points to the cause and helps choose a better technique/material for you.
